Offbeat Manda Gastro Treats

For someone who’s so used to eating in fast-food restaurants and food establishments that are found in malls, there is this longing to always try and taste something new. So when I tried to look for top restaurants in Mandaluyong using the internet, I got frustrated with the results. Most them are located in, where else, malls. I thought, being a Mandaluyong baby, coming up with a list of food spots in the city can be beneficial not just to me but to my friends as well.

So here, my attempt at making a list of offbeat gastro places in the Tiger City that every Mandaluyong residents and guests alike should try. I have visited some of them, which are shown with a red check mark and rated with stars (5 being the highest) based on my experience, and I still plan to drop by those I haven’t been to yet.

I cannot share any mouthwatering images of food with you because I don’t really like taking photos of the meals I eat unless there’s a shotgun pointed at my head. Jk. All images found here are from the social media accounts or official website of the restaurants included in this list.

UPDATE: I have decided to remove Charlie’s Wonton House, PVL Restaurant, and R & J Bulalohan from the list to give way to the new and rising food spots. I also categorized the list for better navigation.

  11. my exp at beanperk (their cheesecakes, pocket pizza and grande size frap were epic) and tipsy beans (creamycarbo is superb, though the cheesy adobo is way too salty) is the best… plana’s pantry menu’s great & the ambiance was very calming and sossy! One cafe’s flooring needs some furnishing though but their menu’s also great, love the aircon. for me it’s about both the eyes (the ambiance, the place, the venue, the store in its physical aspect) and the taste buds (the food, the menu, the taste) thats why people go and eat out with friends.

    1. Sir Olan, with all due respect, the title of the list is OFFBEAT MANDALUYONG GASTRO TREATS. Tonang’s has been in the business since I was little. I can create another list para diyan buy I don’t think Tonang’s fits the word “offbeat.” Thanks for dropping by.

      1. Please create a list of the tried and tested uniquely Mandaluyong eats also. I’m not from Mandaluyong so I haven’t heard of Tonang’s but I would definitely want to try those out as well.

        1. Hi Marilyn. The only food spots I know of that have been there since I was a kid are
Aling Tonang’S Palabok, Charlie’s Wonton House, PVL Restaurant, and R&J Bulalohan. I would have to research more to come up with an extensive list. For now, I’d have to stick with the offbeat ones.

        1. Hi Jen. Actually, this is my list and I have the final say on what should be listed, added, or deleted. But yeah, to be fair with Tonang’s I have already removed Charlie’s Wonton House, PVL and R&J. Thanks for dropping by!

  12. I always see Mr Mikey Bustos eating at IhawanNiKuyaSpeed! hundreds of people come by at that place EVERYDAY from all
    over the place!!!

  13. Try Sonsi’s House of Longanisa!!! It’s in Madison Square as well. Longanisa from all over the country in one place. Sarap! I have no interest there but i highly recommend. Vigan longanisa is my favorite. Also their benguet coffee.

  14. Sorry for being makulit. But seriously, Sonsi’s House of Longganisa is a must try. Located in Madison Square.

      1. I’ll be waiting for that “tapsilugan” entries, MissBackpacker. πŸ™‚ BTW, There is also a Chekwa in Dansalan area πŸ™‚

  15. Try this GARAHE. Best seller of Garahe is Burgers and Milkshake. Which there burgers are quarter pound and beef patty.

  16. Hi πŸ™‚ I was wondering if you could provide me with the name of one of the restos you removed from your list. I remember seeing a picture of wine and cheese, but I can’t remember the name. I hope you’ll be able to help. Thanks in advance!

    1. Hello. I removed Charlie’s Wonton House, PVL Restaurant, and R & J Bulalohan. I am certain that neither they sell wine and cheese nor the photos I posted had those you mentioned. πŸ˜€

      1. Thanks for the reply. I also wanted to suggest this little Japanese diner along the Mandaluyong Circle called “Minamiya”. It’s relatively new (opened 12.8.14) with a real Japanese doing all the cooking. It tastes more authentic than others and the prices are affordable.

  17. You may also want to include Eskinita. It introduced the first black burger in town and its dishes have unique and interesting names.

  18. Hi! πŸ™‚ I believe the Cookbook is now 8&Company πŸ™‚ They have great food and awesome interiors!! πŸ™‚

  19. Seriously you have to try Maui’s inside Mandaluyong public market at marketplace, Masing’s Bar-b-que in Paraiso, near san felupe neri church and Bambanana’s sizzling at barangka ibaba. You will never regret it.

    1. Hi, Eric. I’m Ate Maui’s suki. πŸ™‚ I’ve added Masing’s and Bambanana’s and I’ve yet to create another list for lutong bahay and tapsilugan so Ate Maui’s eatery will have to wait. ^_^
