I had long been wanting to witness the prestigious international fireworks competition in the country for four years now. Last night, I finally got to watch the opening ceremony of the 5th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition in Seaside Boulevard of the SM Mall of Asia.
I brought my ever trusted point-and-shoot camera in good faith that it’d be enough to capture the spectacular fireworks display of Australia, Spain, United Kingdom, France, Japan, China, Germany, Finland, Canada, USA, and our very own Philippines. I didn’t bother using neither a DSLR nor a tripod. When I arrived at the area where the spectators and photographers alike were, I felt sheepish. My camera became Nemo among the big fishes of the ocean. All of the watchers had their expensive DSLRs with gigantic lenses mounted on a tripod. Noob’s mistake. haha!
The first display titled Love is in the Air was an opening exhibition from the Platinum Fireworks, Inc. of the Philippines. The exhibition showcased amazing fireworks display in tuned to different love songs, old or pop, which we all are familiar with. Here are the photos I took, which I think are forgivable. 🙂
The next set  titled Billabong Dreaming was from the first competitor Howard and Sons Fireworks of Australia. The show aimed to showcase the mythical day-to-day journey of an Australian Billabong. But what on earth is Billabong? No, it isn’t the brand of the surf outfit. Billabong, according to Google, is a branch of a river forming a backwater or stagnant pool, made by water flowing from the main stream during a flood.
Judging from what I saw, Philippines nailed it better. Too bad, they aren’t participating this year. And I’m curious on how their closing exhibition will turn out. For the meantime, check out the poster below on other details like schedule, ticket outlets, pricing, and contact numbers.

Now let’s talk about the good news. We are giving away four gold tickets to the competition! Hurrah! Isn’t that amazing? hahaha! Just see the deets below:
I am watching another show in one of the next Saturdays so I hope to see you there! 🙂
